What is energy
The energy causes things to happen around us. Energy is the ability to do work.

Energy is a quantity that can be assigned to every particle, object, and system of objects as a consequence of the state of that particle, object or system of objects. Energy can be found in a number of different forms. It can be chemical energy, electrical energy, heat (thermal energy), light (radiant energy), mechanical energy, and nuclear energy.
Any form of energy can be transformed into another form. For example, people utilize the chemical energy from the food they consume, and their body transforms it into mechanical energy, that allows them to run, play games, do work, etc.
There are different forms of energy as kinetic, potential, thermal, gravitational, sound, elastic, light, and electromagnetic energy, but there are two main types of energy:
- potential energy – this is stored energy.
- kinetic energy– this is moving energy.
The forms of energy are often named after a related force.
Before the different types of energy resources and their uses are discussed, it is important to understand a little about the basic laws of energy.
The laws of thermodynamics govern how and why energy is transferred.
Energy is measured in many ways.
